In keeping with the industry’s
reputation as a close-knit, entrepreneurial and innovative group of
professionals, it makes sense that broadband cable employers and
career seekers would have their own unique medium with which to
feature their job opportunities and candidate resumés, respectively.
A targeted, industry-specific alternative to the big job boards that
provides both the employer and career seeker a place to be seen
above the noise. An exclusive Internet portal where the companies,
job requirements and resources are comfortably familiar to the user.
A high-profile career channel where the industry's hiring managers
can connect with the talented technicians, engineers, managers and
human resource professionals needed to build and maintain the
emerging telecommunications platform of tomorrow.
The Society of Cable Telecommunications
Engineers (SCTE), The Literature Library of Broadband
Technology and Women in Cable & Telecommunications (WICT)
have launched just such a novel, affiliated career platform for the
broadband cable industry, Broadband Careers Network, powered by BroadbandCareers.Com. Beginning
with the determination of SCTE’s former vice president of marketing
and membership services, Melissa Hicks, to bring added value to
SCTE’s Job Bank, the network has rapidly expanded to include the
foremost professional associations and publishers in broadband
today. Leveraging the application technology and collective content
of BroadbandCareers.Com, the affiliate network allows one user
account (employer or job candidate), on any affiliate node in the
network, access and visibility across the entire network — broadband
applied to online recruitment.
For the career seeker/job candidate, the networked application provides an intuitive Career Manager home page for posting, viewing, editing and sending a current profile and resumé. A confidential profile and resumé may be posted preserving the privacy and anonymity of the passive job candidate. Communication between a confidential candidate and a prospective employer is handled through the networked application so that confidentiality is maintained throughout the process. Advanced job searching is easily accomplished via keywords and built-in Boolean filters, as well as geographic and job category selections. Jobs can be applied for on the fly, which automatically sends the posting recruiter the applicant's resumé, and favorite jobs can be saved to the users account for later perusal. Powerful tools are also provided, such as multiple Job Agents that scan incoming postings for the user's specific job search criteria. Agent results are then automatically emailed to the candidate with links directly to those jobs.
For the employer/job advertiser, the Broadband Careers Network of affiliated job banks, anchored by SCTE and WICT, provides unprecedented exposure to a targeted audience of key professional associations and trade publications. Employers can reach candidates who are qualified for their openings by posting jobs and searching an extensive, broadband-centric resumé database. A listing and expanded company profile is provided to annual and trial accounts, which include the employer's logos, website address, links to career opportunities and contact information. The employer's Account Manager area provides full functionality to manage multiple users, multiple candidate agents, unlimited job postings and unlimited resumé access. Membership on any one of the partner sites provides access and content distribution across the affiliate network.
Successful recruitment and staffing is founded on the principle of networking with people of mutual interests and backgrounds. On this principle, the Broadband Careers Network was built and deployed for the benefit of the cable and telecommunications sector.
